Q: How does the Veypor know my current gear without using additional sensors?
A: Your gear is determined by the ratio of your speed to engine RPM. The Veypor memorizes your gear ratios during a quick drive down the block and then always knows instantly which gear you are in. It is compatible with vehicles featuring 2 to 6 gears.
Q: How can you calculate horsepower with only a speed, acceleration and RPM sensor?
A: Horsepower is basically the product of your speed, acceleration and weight. Veypor knows your acceleration and speed but you must enter the vehicle and rider/driver weight. The vehicle weight can usually be found in the user manual or from your dealer. Just add that to your body weight and input it into the Veypor configuration.
Q: Will this work on my V-Max, V8, parallel or inline 4 engine?
A: Yes. The Veypor RPM sensor features a built-in programmable multiplier that allows it to work with any engine configuration.
Q: Will this install on my shaft driven bike?
A: Yes. It is easiest to mount the speed sensor on the rear sprocket and swing arm of a motorcycle. With shaft driven bikes this isn't possible. On our support pages we have pictures users have submitted of how they mounted it on their shaft driven bikes.
Q: Does the Veypor log data during lap timing?
A: The Veypor offers general purpose datalogging of up to 28 seconds at 25 Hz. The VR2 product is a full featured datalogger that supports all kinds of datalogging options.
Q: How do you install the Veypor and how long does it take?
A: The Veypor installation depends on how well you know your bike. Installation time can be anywhere from 20 minutes to a couple hours. There are 4 main installation steps:
  • Connect the ram mount to somewhere in the cockpit.
  • Connect the wiring harness to the battery.
  • Attach the speed sensor the the swingarm and magnet on the rear wheel or sprocket.
  • Splice the RPM sensor into the ignition coil input wire OR electronic tach wiring harness. This step usually takes the longest as accessing the ignition coil sometimes involves removing some of the fairing and even fuel tank on some bikes. The ignition coil can be found by tracking your spark plug wire back from the engine. Some newer bikes have the ignition coils mounted directly on the spark plugs. In either case you want to splice into the wire driving the ignition coil on the ECU side of the coil, not the spark plug side.
Q: Does the Veypor work on cars, ATVs, MX?
A: The Veypor will work on anything with wheels. There are a few points to note: Cars: Depending on where you want to mount the unit the standard wiring harness may not be long enough. If this is a problem, you can return the wiring harness included with your unit and we will send you a longer harness free of charge. ATVs and Motocross: The Veypor is water resistant and not fully waterproof. Huge amounts of water may damage the unit. Although it shouldn't be a problem, the Veypor has not been tested for the long term effects of extreme vibration conditions of motocross racing.
Q: Does the Veypor work on boats or snowmobiles?
A: The Veypor's accuracy relies on a speed sensor on some type of wheel. Without the rear wheel sensor the internal accelerometers will still give accurate 1/4 Mile and 0-60Mph times and you will still obtain accurate RPM readings. You will no longer have any Odometer, tripmeter or Speedometer functions. On snowmobiles another concern is the low refresh rates of the display in cold temperatures. The display update rate may be too slow for real time monitoring to be useful. The unit will still function up to -40 degrees and will log data. The data can be saved and then downloaded to a PC for analysis. The Veypor is not recommended for use with boats due to the large take-off angles they have. This may skew the data making it unreliable.
Q: Can I move the Veypor between vehicles/motorcycles?
A: You can move the Veypor between vehicles but it will take a while. The installation of the wiring harness is designed to be semi-permanent and may take some effort to undo. We will be offering additional wiring harnesses for sale on our website very shortly. This way the Veypor main unit can be moved quickly between vehicles such as a car and motorcycle.
Q: How can I get more consistent horsepower numbers?
A: The peak HP values the Veypor is detecting are not always indicative of true peak HP. The problem is that these peak values can occur during shifting or launching when the clutch slips into place, causing a temporary lunge in acceleration. This isn't really the engine working, it is the momentum of the engine and flywheel being transferred through the engaging clutch to the wheels.

The best way to get an accurate HP run is to quickly shift up to 4th gear (or even 5th), very softly, at low speed and low RPM, then open the throttle and wait until you hit redline, then stop - essentially a low speed roll-on. Avoiding shifting during the run ensures no erratic acceleration peaks are created.

When you're done the run, look at the data in the HP graph or with the VAS software and find the peak of the horsepower curve yourself. This peak value will always be somewhere near redline during your long acceleration. Finding this peak yourself ensures the Veypor isn't finding some erratic peak due to shifting and using it as the max acceleration.

Another good method of determining if engine upgrades are improving performance is by doing roll-ons:

Accelerate up to 50mph then turn on the Auto 1/4 Mile timing mode. Now do a roll on up to 70 mph. Later, use the Veypor or VAS software to analyze the speed vs. time graph to see how long it took to accelerate from 50 to 70mph. Make the engine modifications and repeat this measurement to see if your bike now does the roll-on faster. This is a nice method that gives accurate numbers regardless of tire traction, wheelies, driver skill, etc.
Q: What is the "Speed Filter" used for?
A: The Speed Filter is used to reduce any false speed triggers.
- If you notice some spikes in your speed once in a while, then increase the speed filter.
- If you notice that your speed is sometimes not being read and is dropping to zero at higher speeds, then reduce the speed filter.
- Default value is 2 and should work in most cases.

Q: What is the RPM Filter used for?
A: The RPM filter is used to tune the sensitivity of the RPM pickup.
- Increase this value to filter out electrical noise that causes erratic RPM readings.
- Reduce the value to increase the RPM detection sensitivity.
- The default value is 4, only adjust this if necessary.
Q: I have updated the firmware an my VR2 to 1v93 and cannot set the time or date it just reverts to ??? , also the trip distance resets to zero when it is started.
